Govt pushing country towards crisis by denying referendum verdict: Mia Golam Parwar

Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar alleged that the government is deliberately pushing the country towards a deep political and constitutional crisis by bypassing the direct verdict of the people in the referendum. He said, the verdict of the referendum is being denied under the cover of the July Charter. This is not just a political maneuver, but a position directly against the people’s mandate.
This leader of Jamaat said this in the speech of the chief guest in a seminar at Khulna Press Club’s banquet hall on Saturday morning. Khulna Metropolitan Jamaat-e-Islami organized the seminar titled ‘Government Against Referendum Verdict: A Country Facing Crisis’.

Golam Parwar claims that the government is consciously creating confusion in the public mind by separating these two issues, the July charter and the referendum verdict. The government and ministers have stood in parliament repeatedly promising to implement the July Charter, but remain silent on the direct verdict of the people in the referendum.
The Secretary General of Jamaat raised the question, despite the long four months before the referendum, why did not the government or the concerned people raise any objections? The signing of the July charter on October 17, the presidential order on November 13, the referendum ordinance on November 25, the vote in February—all this time no one said that it was unconstitutional. But sitting in power, everything is being called ‘illegal’.

Stating that the government wants to retain its control, Golam Parwar said, some of the issues raised by the BNP are that the Prime Minister cannot be the head of the party at the same time, refusal to accept the proportional representation system in the upper house, non-observance of the obligation to present and ratify international agreements in Parliament, opposition to the independent commission for the appointment of judges, proposals to reduce the influence of the Prime Minister in the Public Service Commission and the Anti-Corruption Commission. If these places are left out, the whole reform becomes meaningless.
This leader of Jamaat referred to the current position of the government as an authoritarian and fascist trend. He said, the verdict of the people is being denied by the force of majority. This is a sign of fascism, not democracy. If this trend continues, the situation of conflict, instability and bloodshed may arise again in the country.
Secretary General of Jamaat said, ‘Time is running out fast. There is still a chance. The people’s mandate must be respected to avoid crisis. Otherwise the government will have to take the responsibility. If the verdict given by five crore people is not implemented in the Parliament, we will go back to the people. Movement is the only way.
