Government forms cabinet committee to oversee national fertilizer distribution and monitoring

The government has formed a cabinet committee led by Social Welfare Minister Professor A.Z.M. Zahid Hossain to assist the Ministry of Agriculture in managing fertilizer-related affairs. The committee is tasked with evaluating nationwide fertilizer procurement, distribution, and the appointment of fertilizer dealers to provide strategic guidance to the Ministry of Agriculture.
According to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Tuesday, the committee also includes Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu and State Minister for Local Government Mir Shahe Alam. The Ministry of Agriculture will provide secretarial support to the committee.
Earlier on Tuesday, Prime Minister’s Advisor for Information and Broadcasting Zahed Ur Rahman held a press briefing at the Secretariat, where he assured the public that there is no fertilizer crisis in the country. He emphasized that existing stocks are sufficient and that the government has authorized extensive fertilizer imports to ensure no shortages occur in the future.
Data shared during the briefing indicated that the country currently holds over 1.36 million metric tons of fertilizer in storage. Officials noted that for the corresponding period in the 2024-25 fiscal cycle, fertilizer reserves stood at 1.3 million metric tons.
Regarding reports of irregularities in fertilizer distribution in certain regions, the information advisor stated that the government is aware of the situation and is taking prompt administrative action to address these concerns.
