Government Announces Phased Implementation of New Pay Scale for Public Servants Starting July

The government has announced a new pay scale for public sector employees, set to be implemented in phases starting July 1 of this year. The transition to the revised salary structure will be completed across three phases ending in 2027, with all associated allowances scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2028.
The decision was finalized on Monday during a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Tareq Rahman at the Secretariat. Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Goni announced the details of the pay structure during a press briefing following the meeting.
According to officials from the Cabinet Division and the Ministry of Finance, priority has been given to employees in grades 10 through 20 to provide immediate support to lower-income staff. For these grades, the increased basic salary will be implemented in three increments: 50 percent starting in July of this year, followed by an additional 25 percent in January 2027, and the final 25 percent in July 2027. By the end of this process, these employees will receive the full 100 percent of their revised basic salary.
For employees in grades 1 through 9, the implementation schedule differs slightly. They will receive 40 percent of their increased basic salary starting this July, followed by a 30 percent increase on January 1, 2027, and the final 30 percent increment on July 1, 2027.
Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Goni clarified that the staggered approach ensures that the salary adjustments are integrated systematically over the coming months. He emphasized that the three-phase process will conclude by the end of 2027, allowing for the unified implementation of both salaries and allowances beginning in 2028.
