Former mayor Selina Hyatt Ivy was granted bail in two cases

Former Mayor of Narayanganj City Corporation Selina Hayat Ivy has been granted interim bail in two cases of Siddhirganj police station on charges of murder.

The High Court bench comprising of Justice KM Zahid Sarwar and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher gave this order along with the ruling after hearing the separate application filed by Ivir seeking bail.

The two cases were filed at Siddhirganj police station on September 11, 2024 and June 30, 2025. In one of these two cases, he was arrested on March 2 and in the other on April 12.

After failing in the subordinate court in these two cases, the jailed former mayor Ivy filed a separate application for bail in the High Court. Senior lawyers Sara Hossain and Motahar Hossain Saju heard on behalf of Ivy in the court. Lawyer SM Hriday Rahman was with him. Deputy Attorney General Syeda Sazia Sharmin was for the state.

Before this, the police arrested Ivy from her house in Deobogh, Narayanganj city in the morning of May 9 last year. Later, he was arrested in three murder cases and two attempted murder cases related to the anti-discrimination student movement.

Selina Hayat Ivy, imprisoned in these five cases, got bail from the High Court on November 9 last year. The State filed five separate appeals against this bail in the Appellate Division. The Chamber Court suspended the bail granted by the High Court on November 12 last year and sent the petitions of the state to the regular bench of the Appellate Division for hearing. The applications are pending hearing in the Appellate Division.

According to the information of Ivey’s lawyer, on the same day (November last year) Ivey received bail from the High Court in those five cases, an application was made to show him to be arrested in five more cases and it was granted. Ivy was not named in the statement of these five cases. In these five separate cases, Selina Hayat Ivy received six months interim bail from the High Court on February 26. The state side appealed to the Appellate Division against these bail orders.

The chamber court held a hearing on March 5 and suspended the bail granted to Ivy by the High Court and sent the state’s petitions to the regular bench of the Appellate Division for hearing. In continuation of this, the hearing was held on April 27 on the application made by the state party. The Appellate Division fixed May 3 for the order after hearing that day.

In this regard, after bail in 10 cases, Ivy filed a writ in the High Court about the process of showing those two arrests of Siddhirganj police station. On April 26, the High Court issued an order along with the preliminary hearing of the writ. In two separate cases of Siddhirganj Police Station, why the arrest of Ivy (Shon Arrest) will not be declared outside the legal authority and contrary to fundamental rights, the rule has asked to know.

Ivy was the mayor of Narayanganj municipality from 2003 to 2011. Later he won three consecutive elections of the newly formed Narayanganj City Corporation.
