Five-year-old boy drowns in water-filled pit in Rajbari

A five-year-old boy was found dead in a water-filled pit in Rajbari’s Goalanda upazila on Wednesday, just two hours after he went missing from his grandfather’s residence.

The victim, Sanvir Molla, was the son of Faruk Molla, a resident of the Tamiz Uddin Mridha Para area. The child had been staying at his mother’s ancestral home in Syedal Para for several days prior to the incident.

According to the child’s mother, Sumi Khatun, the boy vanished around 2:00 p.m. shortly after she stepped outside to fetch water. When she returned to find him missing, family members launched an immediate search of the surrounding area.

Local residents eventually discovered the boy’s body face down in a large pit filled with rainwater near a local farmstead along the bank of the dead Padma River. Neighbors rushed the child to the Goalanda Upazila Health Complex, where attending physicians declared him dead upon arrival.

Goalanda Ghat police confirmed the incident on Thursday morning. Police Inspector (Investigation) Md. Rashidiul Islam stated that the victim’s family requested to forgo an autopsy. The body was released to the family late Wednesday night, and a case of unnatural death has been filed with the local police station.
