Fifty-four-year-old father earns secondary school certificate after seeing children through medical and nursing careers

At 54 years old, Ali Akbar has proven that age is no barrier to academic achievement by passing the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations. Akbar, a resident of Bagatipara municipality in Natore, earned a GPA of 4.35 from the building maintenance trade under the technical branch of Nowhata Science and Technology High School in Rajshahi.

Akbar’s journey toward education faced significant challenges early on. As the second of eleven children, he was forced to abandon his studies after the eighth grade in 1983 to support his family’s limited income through small business ventures. He married in 1990 and later relocated to Rajshahi with his family, where he and his wife secured employment at a private hospital.

Despite financial constraints, Akbar remained committed to his children’s education. He successfully supported his daughter’s nursing studies, which she completed in 2015, and his son’s medical education. His son, Ismail Hossain, graduated with an MBBS degree in 2019 and is now serving as a physician following his success in the 42nd Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examination.

Inspired by his children’s accomplishments, Akbar resumed his own academic pursuits with the full support of his family. Reflecting on his success, Akbar noted that he aimed to serve as a role model for the younger generation, discouraging the idle use of mobile devices and emphasizing the role of perseverance and willpower in achieving goals.

Ismail Hossain expressed the family’s collective pride in his father’s accomplishment. He stated that the family had actively encouraged Akbar’s decision to return to school, assisting him with both the enrollment process and his academic preparations. The family now hopes that Akbar will continue his educational journey further.
