BNP Lawmaker Shahadat Hossain Salim Alleges Bureaucratic Sabotage Impeding Infrastructure Projects in Lakshmipur

Shahadat Hossain Selim, a member of parliament for the Lakshmipur-1 (Ramganj) constituency, has alleged that remnants of the ousted autocratic regime remain entrenched within the administration, actively obstructing government initiatives. The lawmaker, a former chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) who joined the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) prior to the 13th parliamentary elections, expressed his frustrations in a post on his verified Facebook account late Tuesday.

The MP’s public criticism follows significant delays in the construction of the road stretching from Zia Chattar to Sonapur intersection in Ramganj. Selim attributed the project’s stagnation to the negligence of contractors, a lack of technical capacity, and an overall absence of oversight from relevant authorities. He noted that the resulting traffic congestion and public suffering have become intolerable for local residents.

According to Selim, the executive engineer of the Roads and Highways Department had formally pledged in the presence of the Minister of Water Resources during a district law and order meeting on August 4 that the roadwork would be completed within seven days. The lawmaker cited the failure to meet this deadline as evidence of deep-seated administrative inefficiency and the influence of elements loyal to the former government.

In his post, Selim argued that the time has come for the government to adopt a more stringent approach to governance. He emphasized the necessity of purging the remnants of the fallen regime from the administrative machinery to restore operational momentum, accountability, and the rule of law.

Speaking further on the matter, Selim stated that he has repeatedly consulted with relevant officials to expedite the construction process but has seen no tangible results. He explained that his decision to utilize social media was a manifestation of the frustration felt regarding the prolonged plight of his constituents.
