Farmer dies in Faridpur after alleged forced poisoning by assailants

A 55-year-old farmer in the Charbhadrasan upazila of Faridpur died on Monday morning at Faridpur Medical College Hospital after allegedly being subjected to a brutal assault and forced poisoning. Yusuf Ali Sheikh, a resident of Char Amrapur village, passed away while undergoing treatment, two days after the incident reportedly took place.
According to the victim’s family, the incident occurred on Saturday evening when a local youth lured Sheikh to the Padma riverbank under false pretenses. Once there, a group of seven to eight assailants allegedly attacked him. Family members claim that the attackers beat Sheikh severely before forcibly pouring insecticide down his throat and abandoning him near the residence of a local representative known as Bashir Member.
Following the discovery of his condition, relatives initially transported Sheikh to a local rural medical practitioner before transferring him to Faridpur Medical College Hospital on Saturday night as his health deteriorated rapidly.
In the hours leading up to his death, Sheikh recorded a video statement detailing the torture he endured. In the footage, he explicitly identifies the individuals he claims were responsible for the assault and the forced ingestion of the poison.
Mohammad Safar Ali, the officer-in-charge of Charbhadrasan Police Station, confirmed that officers were dispatched to the hospital to conduct an inquest into the death. The body has been sent to the morgue for an autopsy, which officials say will be critical in determining the precise cause of death. Police have launched an investigation into the allegations as they await the forensic report to proceed with potential criminal charges.
