Fakhrul Seeks Chinese Investment to Boost Industrial Growth in Thakurgaon

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called for increased Chinese investment in the northern district of Thakurgaon, emphasizing the need for industrial development to foster regional economic growth. Speaking at a ceremony in the Shahid Mohammed Ali Stadium on Friday, the veteran politician highlighted China’s ongoing support for infrastructure projects across Bangladesh, including bridges, roads, and academic institutions.
The event, which saw the distribution of educational materials—including school bags, stationery, and art supplies—to 6,500 local primary school students, was hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka. Attendees included Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen, embassy officials, and local government representatives.

During his address, Mirza Fakhrul underscored his long-standing personal relationship with Ambassador Yao Wen, noting that he had visited China twice and observed its rapid development firsthand. He confirmed that the ambassador has committed to sending a delegation of Chinese enterprise representatives to Thakurgaon within the next few months to engage with local business leaders and explore potential manufacturing and industrial opportunities.
Addressing the role of education in national development, Mirza Fakhrul reiterated the government’s commitment to providing students with the resources necessary to compete in an increasingly globalized environment. He urged local educators to focus on cultivating the next generation of professionals, emphasizing the necessity of self-reliance for Bangladesh’s future prosperity.

Ambassador Yao Wen expressed optimism regarding the region’s economic potential, noting that he observed significant tracts of land suitable for development during his visit. He reaffirmed his pledge to dispatch an investment delegation to the district by mid-year. Furthermore, the ambassador praised the students’ proficiency in English and announced plans to facilitate cultural exchange programs, including an opportunity for local students to visit China within the next two years, to further strengthen the bilateral partnership between the two nations.
