Man kills mother and two daughters in knife attack in Raipur

A man armed with a machete stormed a residence in Raipur, Lakshmipur, on Thursday, killing a mother and her two daughters in a brutal attack that has left the local community reeling. The assailant, whose identity has not yet been disclosed by authorities, entered the home near Tinhata in the municipal area at approximately 12:00 p.m. and began attacking the occupants indiscriminately.
The victims were identified as 40-year-old Shahinur Begum and her daughters, 18-year-old Ikra Begum and 10-year-old Sipa Begum. Ikra, a student in the twelfth grade, and Sipa, a fourth-grader, succumbed to their injuries at the scene. Shahinur Begum was rushed to the Raipur Upazila Health Complex in critical condition but died while undergoing treatment. The family’s eldest daughter, 21-year-old Chhayma Akter, also sustained severe injuries and remains hospitalized.
Local residents intervened during the attack, detaining the approximately 30-year-old suspect before subjecting him to a mob beating and turning him over to the police. According to neighborhood reports, the family was originally from Homna, Comilla, and had been living in the rented Raipur house for an extended period.
Dr. Mamunur Rashid, the resident medical officer at the Raipur Upazila Health Complex, confirmed that the two sisters were dead upon arrival and that their mother died shortly after admission. The victims suffered multiple sharp-force injuries, including deep lacerations to their necks. He noted that the surviving sister remains in critical condition.
Raipur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shahin Mia stated that officers arrived shortly after receiving reports of the incident to secure the area and take custody of the suspect. While an investigation into the motive for the murders is currently underway, police are moving forward with formal legal proceedings against the detained individual.
