Extortion by intercepting a car carrying prawns, two Chhatra Dal leaders of Barisal University expelled

The Central Chhatra Dal has expelled two leaders of Barisal University Branch Chhatra Dal on the charges of extortion by intercepting shrimp nuclear vehicles. This information was informed in a press release signed by Jahangir Alam, secretary of Central Chhatra Dal yesterday.
It is said in the notification, based on the specific complaint of organizational disorder, Barisal University Branch Student Dal Vice President Mia Babul and Md. Mithu has been expelled from the organization. Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam and General Secretary Nashir Uddin approved this decision yesterday. At the same time, leaders and workers of Chhatra Dal at all levels have been instructed not to have any kind of organizational relationship with them.
According to a source of the University Chhatra Dal, several top leaders of the Barisal University Chhatra Dal have been accused of extorting, vandalizing the car and beating the driver by stopping microbuses and pickups carrying prawns and jatka hilsa on the Bhola-Barisal highway. Later, the Central Chhatra Dal summoned the president and general secretary of the university branch Chhatra Dal to Dhaka on an urgent basis. Then the vice president Mia Babul and Md. Mithu was removed from organizational activities and expelled.
Aggrieved businessmen said that around five o’clock in the morning on Tuesday, Chhatra Dal leaders-activists chased a microbus carrying prawns from Patuakhali from Barisal zero point to Bhola Road near the university. Later, the car driver and assistant were taken to the under-construction building of the Marine Academy adjacent to the university and beaten up. Renu’s owner was threatened and demanded five lakh rupees. At that time, they were released by paying 95,000 taka and 5,000 taka in cash to three numbers of Bkash to save their lives, a total of one lakh taka.
After some time, another microbus carrying prawns was signaled to stop at the zero point near the university, and the driver quickly took the vehicle and tried to go towards Rupatali. At this time, a motorcycle hit the spot. A Chhatra Dal worker named Arafat was injured. Later, Chhatra Dal leaders and workers chased the microbus. When the car stopped in front of the police patrol car near Rupatali traffic police box, seven to eight Chhatra Dal leaders-activists beat up the driver and assistant of the microbus in front of the police. The driver and assistant were seriously injured. At this time, the glass and other parts of the microbus were vandalized.
Earlier on January 29 at around 11 pm, another car carrying jatka hilsa was stopped at Talukdar Market area of Bhola-Barisal highway and a ransom of Tk 50,000 was demanded. There is also an allegation of beating the driver for not getting the fare.
Several leaders and workers of the university branch Chhatra Dal said on condition of anonymity that under the leadership of the Chhatra Dal president, organizing secretary Mizanur Rahman and vice-president Mia Babul controlled the extortion. Enraged by this, another faction of Chhatra Dal became active on the highway. Allegedly, on the night of May 19, senior vice-president Ashiq and senior joint general secretary Ittesaf R-Rafi’s followers also took a stand to block the car. Later, Chhatra Dal activist Arafat was injured while chasing a nuclear vehicle. After that, another car was stopped in Rupatali and vandalized and the driver was beaten up.
Regarding the complaint, Mia Babul said, ‘I am being framed here. Everyone eats together, but only mine is called. Some local people are also involved in this. I will quickly bring the names of the main hosts forward through journalists.
It is to be noted that on May 1, the Central Chhatra Dal announced the partial committee of the Barisal University Branch Chhatra Dal of 127 members by electing Mosharraf Hossain as the president and Arif Hossain (Shant) as the general secretary.
