Government 99 sacks of rice recovered from Jamaat leader’s house in Noakhali

The upazila administration has seized 99 bags of rice sealed by the food department from the house of Jamaat-e-Islami leader in Subarnachar of Noakhali. This incident took place in the area adjacent to Iman Ali Bazar, Ward No. 9 of Charjabbar Union today, Saturday afternoon.
The name of that Jamaat leader is Abdus Samad. He is the president of Jamaat of Ward No. 9 of Charjabbar Union. He claimed that his brother bought the rice from three religious institutions in Lakshmipur. However, the administration says that there is no opportunity to buy and sell government rice.

According to upazila administration and local sources, these rice were inside an abandoned house of Abdus Samad’s house. Local residents surrounded the house after the news of keeping rice came to light. Later the administration was informed. Then the administration along with the police searched the house and seized the rice. At that time, Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Akib Osman ordered to keep the rice in the local Charjabbar Union Parishad (UP).
When asked, acting chairman of Charjabbar Union Kaushar Ahmed told Prothom Alo that there were 99 sacks of rice in Jamaat leader’s house. Among them, four sacks of rice were removed by the people of the house, and the remaining 95 sacks of rice were seized and brought to the Parishad office. On the instructions of UNO, he took the rice to the Parishad office. Abdus Samad has been asked to show the valid documents of this rice. The Upazila Nirbahi Officer will take the next decision after verifying the documents.

When asked, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Akib Ochman told Prothom Alo that the owner of the house claimed that the seized rice had been allotted to three institutions in Ramgatti of Laxmipur as part of the government program. But there is no opportunity to hide government rice at home or buy it. Rice has been kept in that house completely illegally. However, they have been asked to submit the necessary documents. A decision will be given later after verifying the documents.
