Dhaka Metropolitan Police have dismantled an inter-district motorcycle theft syndicate, recovering 20 stolen vehicles following a series of operations across the capital and several surrounding districts. The breakthrough followed an investigation into a theft case filed at Bhatara Police Station on June 24.

Authorities initiated the investigation by analyzing CCTV footage from the crime scene, which led to the arrest of 42-year-old Sohel in the Khilbarirtek area that same day. Interrogation of the suspect provided leads that resulted in the June 28 arrest of 45-year-old Ripon, a repeat offender with 33 prior cases involving theft and other criminal charges. Following a five-day remand, Ripon provided critical information regarding the syndicate’s network, leading police to Nangalkot in Comilla on July 1, where they recovered nine motorcycles and took two additional suspects into custody.

Further intelligence gained from the detained suspects led investigators to the Hazaribagh area of the capital, where they apprehended a key syndicate member, Nuruzzaman Jamal. Jamal, who faces six prior criminal cases, provided information that facilitated subsequent raids in Mymensingh Sadar, Phulpur, and Netrokona. These operations resulted in the recovery of 11 more motorcycles and the arrest of three additional syndicate members.

Police investigations revealed that Jamal and Ripon functioned as the primary thieves, stealing motorcycles from across Dhaka before transporting them to Comilla, Mymensingh, and Netrokona for illicit sale.
