Alleged beating of two lawyers and harassment of women

In the Shariatpur District Lawyers Association election, it has been alleged that no one other than the nominees of the pro-BNP Bangladesh Nationalist Lawyers Forum was allowed to buy the forms. At that time, 3 lawyers, including a woman, confessed to their attack, beating and harassment.

Due to this, there is intense anger and dissatisfaction among all, including ordinary lawyers.

Tajul Islam, the former general secretary of District Lawyers Association, Tauhid Kotwal and local sources said that Sunday is the last day to collect nomination forms for Shariatpur Lawyers Association elections (2026-27). Nomination forms were to be collected from 11 am to 2 pm at the District Bar Association office. There is no presence in front of the Shariatpur District Lawyers Association office since Sunday morning. After that, when the district NCP leader and senior lawyer Muslim Uddin Khan went there to buy the nomination form, he was stopped and assaulted. Later, when he went to his chamber, he was assaulted there as well.

Earlier, pro-BNP lawyers beat and assaulted advocate Murad Monsi in his chamber. Woman lawyer Zainab Akhtar (Eti) was also obstructed and harassed when she went to buy the form.

After that he raised various slogans against the banned Awami League in front of the District Bar Association. There, BNP nominated Bangladesh Nationalist Lawyers Forum nominated President Kamrul Hasan and General Secretary Mridha Nazrul Kabir was nominated. Other posts also allow their nominated members to purchase forms. As a result, they are on the way to being elected unopposed.

Senior lawyer Muslim Uddin Khan said, “When I went to buy forms for the Bar Association elections, pro-BNP lawyers and outsiders stopped and insulted me. Later, when I went to my office, he also assaulted me there.

Advocate Murad Hossain Munsi, who was beaten up and injured, said that in the morning of Shariatpur District Lawyers Association elections, I gave a status on Facebook to get nomination for the post of vice president. Because of this, an election commissioner came to the chamber with his men and beat and injured me.

Woman lawyer Zainab Akhtar Iti said, today when I went to buy forms for general lawyers in Shariatpur District Lawyers Association elections, pro-BNP lawyers and their people prevented me from buying forms and harassed me.

President of Shariatpur District Lawyers Association elected unopposed. Kamrul Hasan said, supporters of banned fascism are making false and fabricated allegations against me. In fact, no such incident happened.

Election Commissioner Advocate Rubayet Anwar Monir said, I am in charge of the election. False accusations are being made against me.

Advocate Shahadad Hossain, the Chief Election Commissioner of District Lawyers Association said, “We were at the office of the District Lawyers Association to sell the forms till the time.” No adverse events occurred.
