Dhaka Metro Rail authorities clear illegal shops near four stations to improve passenger access

The Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) conducted an eviction drive on Thursday to clear unauthorized structures encroaching on pedestrian pathways beneath the city’s metro rail stations. The operation, led by a DMTCL executive magistrate, took place between 10:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., focusing on the corridor stretching from the Uttara North station to the Pallabi station.
According to a formal statement released by DMTCL, the authorities dismantled between 20 and 25 illegal shops that had been obstructing passenger access. During the operation, officials issued verbal warnings to shop owners and local residents, emphasizing the necessity of keeping footpaths clear to ensure the safety and convenience of metro commuters.

The initiative was supported by the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) police, the Turag Police Station, and members of the Ansar force. DMTCL officials confirmed that the eviction drive is part of an ongoing effort to maintain order and accessibility around the metro rail infrastructure, signaling that further enforcement measures will follow.
