Demonstration rally in Barisal against the killing of Pir in Kushtia

A protest march and rally was held in Barisal to protest the killing of Pir Abdur Rahman alias Shamim by attacking the shrine in Kushtia. This program was celebrated on Sunday afternoon in front of Ashwini Kumar Town Hall on Sadar Road in the city under the initiative of Democratic Students Alliance.

Protesting against the increasing ‘mob’ terrorism across the country since the protest rally, the speakers said that the incidents of violence and ‘mob’ terrorism have increased alarmingly in the country recently. These protest marches and rallies have been organized to protest these incidents and to demand justice for those responsible.

Barisal Trade Union Center President AK Azad, General Secretary Tushar Sen, Democratic Students Council Central Organizing Secretary Sujoy Shubo and Barisal University Branch Organizer Minhaj Sardar, Student Union Central Vice President Sujoy Sarkar, Barisal District Student Union Treasurer Maria Marja etc. addressed the protest rally.

Speakers in the rally said that the shrine was attacked and set on fire by a ‘mob’ based on a video from three years ago. If Sufi Shamim had committed a crime, it would have been guaranteed the maximum punishment by the court subject to proof under the law. But instead of doing that, they were brutally beaten and hacked to death by a ‘mob’ without trial. Every sane person will take to the streets if the group that created the ‘mob’ is not brought to justice soon.

In the rally, the Central Organizing Secretary of the Student Council Sujoy Shubo said, “Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed is teaching the constitution in our National Parliament every day. But I have not heard any statement from him about taking away the freedom of expression, security of life and other civil rights of the citizens. He said that if the militancy going on with the indirect support of the state is not stopped, the BNPO will be thrown into the fold of a divided political party.

Sujoy Sarkar, the central vice-president of the students’ union, said, “Since the coup, 98 shrines have been attacked and vandalized and set on fire. But not a single incident was prosecuted. This culture of impunity has resulted in this government’s indifference, which has further motivated radical groups to commit these crimes. If the state-sponsored fundamentalist attacks, such militancy continues, then the people must form a united resistance.

On Saturday afternoon, an attack, arson and vandalism took place in a Durbar on charges of blasphemy at Darogar Mor area of ​​Philipnagar Union in Daulatpur, Kushtia. Pir Abdur Rahman alias Shamim of ‘Shamim Baba’s Darbar Sharif’ was beaten and hacked to death.
