Clashes Over Control Erupt in Daulatdia Brothel Leading to Counter-Lawsuits

Violence erupted at the Daulatdia brothel in the Goalanda upazila of Rajbari district early Saturday following a dispute over territorial dominance, leaving one man severely injured and triggering widespread panic in the community.
The incident began around 1:30 a.m. when an argument broke out between Yakub Ali Pal, 40, and a shop owner named Humayun at a rooftop fast-food establishment within the brothel complex. The verbal altercation quickly escalated into a physical confrontation. According to local accounts, Humayun summoned Onik Khan, the son of a former union parishad member, who allegedly arrived with associates and attacked Pal with sharp weapons.
Pal, who is the younger brother of the district Juba Dal’s joint convener, sustained critical injuries, including a severed finger. He was initially rushed to the Goalanda Upazila Health Complex before being transferred to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar for advanced treatment.
Following the attack on Pal, retaliatory violence broke out as his supporters targeted Humayun’s business and residence in the nearby Samsu Masterpara area. Humayun’s wife, Marufa Akter, alleged that a group of intruders stormed their home, ransacked the property, and stole three bhoris of gold jewelry along with 30,000 taka in cash while searching for her husband.
Family members of the victim have accused local political figures of fostering a climate of fear in the area, alleging that the attack was rooted in extortion demands related to real estate transactions. Conversely, the family of the accused has denied wrongdoing, asserting that they have sought legal recourse.
Goalanda Ghat Police Station Officer-in-Charge Safiqul Islam confirmed that two separate cases have been filed by the opposing parties. While law enforcement authorities have launched an investigation into the violence, no arrests had been made as of Sunday afternoon. Police stated that efforts to apprehend those responsible for the assaults and property damage are ongoing.
