Child’s body recovered in Rajshahi a day after he went missing, family claims planned murder

The police recovered the body of a child in Rajshahi’s Durgapur a day after she went missing. His body was recovered from under a palm tree near the house on Saturday afternoon. Before this, the child went missing while playing near the house on Friday afternoon.
The family claims that the child was killed in a planned manner. Deceased Humaira Jannat (4) resident of Hatkanpara Bazar area of Durgapur Upazila. His father Hasibul Hossain is a local pharmacy businessman.
According to family and police sources, Humaira was playing with other children near the house around five o’clock on Friday afternoon. At one stage, the family members started searching for him. On receiving the information, police, fire service and local people searched around the house, pond and bush area throughout the night. But the child was nowhere to be found. At around eight o’clock on Saturday morning, Humaira’s father announced a reward of one lakh rupees to the finder of her daughter on his Facebook ID. Then around two o’clock the body of the child was found under a palm tree near the house.
Humaira’s father Hasibul Islam claimed that his daughter was killed in a planned manner. After being taken to the hospital, the doctors told him that the child might have been poisoned. The child was smelling bad. Hasibul said that although he did not make a direct complaint against anyone, he has doubts about some people. There were minor disputes at family and neighborhood level.
Durgapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Panchananda Sarkar said that the child’s body was found about 150 meters away from the house the day after the disappearance. The body was recovered and sent to Rajshahi Medical College morgue. An investigation is underway to find out the cause of death. He said that a case will be filed by the family in this incident.
