Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) achieved a record-breaking revenue collection of 556.92 crore taka in the outgoing fiscal year, marking the highest financial intake in the organization’s history. This performance represents a significant increase of 100.24 crore taka compared to the 456.68 crore taka collected during the previous fiscal period. According to official data from the corporation’s revenue department, gains were recorded across all sectors, including holding taxes.

Mayor Shahadat Hossain stated that his primary objective is to transition the corporation toward financial self-sufficiency. Efforts to bolster revenue collection remain ongoing, with the administration actively reviewing past assessments to rectify unreasonable holding tax valuations. A significant portion of this success is attributed to the collection of 198 crore taka from the Chattogram Port Authority, reflecting a firm stance on ensuring commercial entities meet their financial obligations to the city.

The holding tax sector proved particularly robust, surpassing its target of 335.64 crore taka to reach a final collection of 384.54 crore taka, representing a 115 percent realization rate. This result stands in stark contrast to historical trends, as the corporation had previously struggled to meet its annual targets in this category. The 384.54 crore taka figure is a substantial improvement over the 309.28 crore taka collected in the 2024-25 fiscal year.

Beyond holding taxes, revenue growth was seen across multiple streams. Land transfer fees emerged as the second-largest contributor, generating 94.78 crore taka. Other significant income sources included 36.74 crore taka from estate branches, 30.67 crore taka from trade license fees, 7.74 crore taka from shop signage fees, and 1.5 crore taka from advertisement taxes.

Chief Revenue Officer S. M. Sarwar Kamal noted that the record revenue was driven by clear directives from the municipal leadership and rigorous oversight. Mayor Hossain’s personal involvement in appeal hearings was instrumental in securing these figures. Despite the success, city officials maintain that there remains untapped potential for further growth and have committed to exploring additional revenue optimization strategies in the upcoming fiscal year.
