Body of 8-Year-Old Girl Recovered From Pond in Tangail Following Disappearance

Police in Tangail’s Sakhipur recovered the body of an eight-year-old girl from a pond at the Upazila Parishad complex on Monday, ending a frantic 40-hour search. Local residents discovered the child’s remains floating in the water at approximately 8:00 a.m., just twenty yards from the gate of the Upazila Executive Officer’s (UNO) residence.
The victim, a second-grade student and resident of the Sakhipur municipal area, had been reported missing since Saturday afternoon. Her family had immediately alerted local authorities after she failed to return home, prompting a police investigation that spanned nearly two days before the grim discovery was made.

Local witnesses who arrived at the scene observed visible injuries on the girl’s body and noted that her facial features were severely disfigured. Many in the community have expressed shock, suggesting the circumstances point toward a premeditated murder. Grief-stricken family members have publicly demanded a thorough investigation and justice for the child’s death.
Sakhipur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Helal Uddin confirmed that the body has been sent to the Tangail General Hospital morgue for an autopsy. While the police had been actively investigating the child’s disappearance since the initial report was filed on Saturday, officials stated that it is premature to determine the exact cause of death until the formal forensic report is completed.
