BNP issues show-cause notice to Mymensingh-11 MP Fakhruddin Ahmed over disciplinary breaches

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has issued a show-cause notice to Fakhr Uddin Ahmed, the Member of Parliament for Mymensingh-11 (Bhaluka), over allegations of violating party discipline and involvement in unethical activities. The notice, signed by Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, requires the lawmaker to provide a written explanation for his conduct within 48 hours.

Fakhr Uddin, who also serves as the convener of the Bhaluka Upazila BNP unit, expressed his intention to comply with the party’s directive. In an interview with Prothom Alo, he maintained his innocence, asserting his continued loyalty to the party and insisting that the situation in his constituency remains stable. He stated that had any incidents of property seizure or illicit activities occurred over the past several months, they would have inevitably drawn widespread media attention.

The central leadership’s move comes amid recurring accusations of extortion and the forceful occupation of industrial enterprises in Bhaluka following the August 2024 uprising. The formal notice references this history, noting that the MP had previously been expelled from the party on September 1, 2024, for similar activities. Although that expulsion was withdrawn on October 24, 2025, following a formal apology, the party leadership contends that the lawmaker and his close associates have again engaged in conduct that undermines the BNP’s organizational standards.

Addressing the specific claims regarding industrial interference, Fakhr Uddin dismissed the allegations as baseless. He argued that the stringent security protocols required to manage factory operations—including the use of formal gate passes and work orders—make it physically impossible for unauthorized groups to seize assets or forcibly remove goods. He emphasized that he has proactively worked to prevent instability at business sites and has facilitated direct communication between factory owners and party officials to verify that operations are proceeding without disruption.

While the lawmaker confirmed he had not yet received the physical copy of the notice, he expressed surprise at the disciplinary escalation, noting that he had previously addressed similar inquiries by connecting party officials directly with factory management to clear up misunderstandings.
