BGB’s patrols are intensified after the recovery of mines on the Naikshyongchari border

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has recovered five anti-personnel mines, five possible Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and a large quantity of inflammable chemicals in two separate operations at the Naikshyongchari border in Bandarban. These raids were conducted last Thursday afternoon.

This information was informed in a press release of BGB on Friday night. It is said that based on intelligence information, a patrol team of Targupara BOP under Naikshyongchari Battalion (11 BGB) of BGB conducted a special operation in Chayapara area between pillars 53 and 54 of the Bangladesh-Myanmar border on Thursday afternoon.

At this time, the BGB patrol team saw four or five suspects and challenged them. Then they left some bags and ran away to the nearby hill forest. After searching the spot, five anti-personnel mines, five possible IEDs, a metal detector, a solar panel, some dry food items, a mobile phone, a power bank and some ordinary clothes were recovered.

The notification also said that the recovered mines and IEDs were secured with sandbags and marked with red flags. In the interest of public safety, traffic has been temporarily stopped in the area. At the same time the patrol has been strengthened. Necessary coordination has been made for the deployment of Army bomb disposal and disposal teams. A General Diary (GD) has been made in this incident at Naikshyongchari Police Station.

Lieutenant Colonel Md. Faizul Kabir said that BGB is carrying out its duties with utmost caution and professionalism in dealing with the multidimensional security challenges existing on the Bangladesh-Myanmar border. In the recent past, there has been a trend of smuggling IEDs and anti-personnel mines in the border areas and smuggling of flammable chemicals, which is a threat to the overall security of the country. In this context, BGB has intensified intelligence activities, increased regular patrols and continued coordinated operations.

BGB also informed that on the same day at noon, a patrol team of Baishfadi BOP under BGB’s Cox’s Bazar Battalion (34 BGB) conducted an operation in Ambagan area adjacent to pillar number 37/2-S. Three kg of inflammable powder, three kg of Mepox (methyl ethyl ketone peroxide), three rolls of nylon cloth and three liters of inflammable chemical liquid were recovered from there without owner. The process of sending them to the Chittagong Divisional Chemical Laboratory for testing is underway. Further legal action will be taken based on the test results.
