Bangladesh to observe Eid-e-Miladunnabi on August 26

The moon for the holy month of Rabiul Awal was not sighted in the skies over Bangladesh on Thursday. Consequently, the month of Safar will complete 30 days on Friday, August 14, and the month of Rabiul Awal of the 1448 Hijri year will commence on Saturday, August 15.
The Islamic Foundation announced in a press release that Eid-e-Miladunnabi, marking the birth and passing of the Prophet Muhammad, will be observed across the country on Wednesday, August 26, corresponding to the 12th day of Rabiul Awal.
The decision was finalized during a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee held at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque conference hall on Thursday evening. The meeting was chaired by Munshi Alauddin Al Azad, Secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
According to the committee, the decision followed a comprehensive review of reports gathered from district administrations, the Islamic Foundation’s divisional and district offices, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, and the Bangladesh Space Research and Remote Sensing Organization (SPARRSO).
Eid-e-Miladunnabi commemorates the birth and death anniversary of the Prophet Muhammad, the final messenger in Islam, who was born into the Quraish tribe in Mecca in 570 AD and passed away on the same day in 632 AD. His life and teachings are central to the faith, and followers worldwide observe the occasion with prayers, recitation of the Quran, and acts of charity.
The meeting was attended by a broad coalition of government officials, religious scholars, and meteorological experts, including Islamic Foundation Director General Mufti Muhammad Muhibbullahil Baqi Nadvi, Chief Information Officer Syed Abdal Ahmad, and representatives from the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs, Bangladesh Television, and various prominent mosques and academic institutions.
