Bangladesh Government Retires 56 Police Officers in Public Interest

The Bangladesh government has issued separate notifications mandating the compulsory retirement of 56 police officers, including 49 inspectors and seven assistant superintendents of police (ASP).
The Ministry of Home Affairs released the directives on Thursday, invoking Section 45 of the Public Service Act, 2018. The move, described by the government as being in the public interest, affects officers who have completed 25 years of service.
The directive concerning the seven ASP-rank officers was signed by Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Manjur Morshed Chowdhury, under the order of the President. The officers affected by this specific order include Nura Alam Siddiqui of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) headquarters, Md. Nurul Mottakin of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Tejgaon Division, Kazi Wazed Ali of the Matiranga Circle in Khagrachhari, and Md. Saiduzzaman of the Galachipa Circle in Patuakhali.
Other officers included in the order are Md. Golam Kibria of RAB-2, Mohammad Mizanur Rahman of the Reserved Force in Dhaka, and Md. Rabiul Islam of Sirajganj district.
According to the notifications, the retirement orders are effective immediately. The affected officials will be entitled to receive their standard retirement benefits as prescribed by law.
