Alleged medical negligence after mother’s death, policeman fights with nurse

After the death of a policeman’s mother at Rajshahi Medical College (Ramek) Hospital, he had a fight with the senior staff nurse, alleging medical negligence. The incident took place in the dental department of Orthosurgery Unit-2 of Ward No. 31 of the hospital yesterday at around 9:30 pm.
Police constable Aminul Islam admitted his elderly mother Nooresa Begum. He was suffering from dental problems. After being admitted to the hospital, he died before treatment could begin. Constable Aminul Islam alleged that his mother’s treatment was neglected. However, accused nurse Rakib Ahmed denied the allegations. Constable working at Shahmakhdum police station in Aminul Nagar. After that incident Constable Aminul was detained and reported to the hospital police box. Later police and Ansar members took him away. Then the senior police officers came. They settled the matter by discussing with the hospital director. Later, Aminul went home with his mother’s body at midnight.
When contacted, Constable Aminul Islam said, “My mother has a dental problem.” The jaw was set and the face was crooked. I took mom to the emergency department around 8:30pm. From there directly to the operation theater. After being taken there, the doctor said, it is not his job. He sent to ward number 31. I went there and told the nurses, just straighten your face. Treatment will follow. But they also say that it is not their job. After a long time senior staff nurse Rakib came. He also says that he cannot do it. Then I said, if you can’t do it, leave the responsibility. Discussion started about this. Clash later. Then 30-40 people came and detained me and called the police.
However, senior staff nurse Rakib Ahmed alleged that the policeman punched him first. He said, ‘I went and saw that the patient had no pulse. I understand, he is dead, but it is not my job to announce. So, without receiving the patient, take him to the doctor who sent him to the operation theater. Saying this, he first punched me twice and then slapped me twice more on the ear. Then I stopped him and said, tell me what is wrong with me. Later the police-Ansar came.
Senior staff nurse Rakib Ahmed has given a written complaint to the commissioner of city police in this incident on Tuesday.
When asked about this, hospital spokesperson Shankar Kumar Biswas said that he is on vacation and does not know anything. Hospital Director Brigadier General PKM Masood-ul Islam did not pick up the call. Rajshahi city police spokesperson Gaziur Rahman said he did not know anything about this.
Shahmakhdum Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kabir Hossain said, Aminul visited several places for the treatment of her mother. After the death of his mother, he fought. It was not right for him to do this. Both sides are at fault here. As Aminul is a policeman, the police will take departmental action against him.
Earlier on the night of April 20, a patient named Julia Begum (50) died while undergoing treatment in ward number 36 of the hospital. After that, her two sons Army member Sohail Ali (29) and school night watchman Jai Ali (24) complained that their mother died due to negligence. The intern doctors complained that they behaved violently. At that time the soldier was also beaten. Later, the two brothers were handed over to the police. The hospital authorities also filed a case against them. The police sent Joy to the court showing arrest in this case. And Sohail was handed over to the army for trial under military law.
