Allegation against the teachers of flogging and putting shoelaces on three children in Raw Mango Village

In a government primary school in Bogra, three children were flogged for eating unripe mangoes from trees. After that, the head teachers and assistant teachers were accused of punishing them by hanging shoelaces around their necks and wearing papers with ‘Amchor’ written on them.
The upazila primary education officer issued a notice to the accused head teacher to show cause within three days when the incident came to light. However, he did not reply even after the stipulated time. Bogra District Primary Education Officer constituted an investigation committee in this incident on Monday. The committee headed by Bogra Sadar Upazila Primary Education Officer has been instructed to submit the report by tomorrow Wednesday.

Bogra Sadar Upazila Primary Education Officer Golam Kabir told Prothom Alo on Tuesday morning that on April 28, some children plucked mangoes from a mango tree in the premises of Bujargdhama Government Primary School in Bogra Sadar Upazila. The next day the head teacher of the school Gol Sahanara Begum called two students of class IV and one student of class V to the office and flogged them. After that, he hung a garland of shoes and a paper written ‘Amchor’ around the neck of the three students. The preliminary investigation found the truth of the incident. Other teachers of the school also assist the head teacher in making shoe garlands and tying them around the students’ necks.
Golam Kabir said that after learning about the incident on May 3 through the parents, a show cause notice was sent to the head teacher Gol Sahanara Begum. He has not responded till yesterday. Legal action will be taken if no satisfactory reply to the notice is received by today.

Meanwhile, an investigation committee was formed in this incident yesterday. District primary education officer. Rezowan Hossain Bogra Sadar Upazila Primary Education Officer headed the committee and ordered to conduct an on-site investigation and submit a report within three working days. This morning, the inquiry committee went to the school and heard the statements of the students, parents and the accused teachers. The upazila primary education officer said that the investigation report will be submitted to the district education officer tomorrow. Disciplinary action against the guilty teachers will also be recommended.
At 10 am today, going to Bujargdhama Government Primary School and talking to the local parents and students, the evidence of the incident was found. They said that the head teacher Gol Sahanara Begum with the help of other teachers called the three students to the office and flogged them. After that, they were paraded around the school premises with garlands of shoes and paper with ‘Ami Amchor’ hanging around their necks. At the same time, other students were warned that if they do such things in the future, they will also be punished.
Abu Saleh, a local guardian, said that when the matter became known, the guardians became angry. The head teacher apologizes to the students and parents in the face of the cannon. However, most of the parents demanded exemplary punishment against all the teachers involved.
The accused head teacher Gol Sahanara Begum was not found when he went to the office of the school at 10 am to inquire about the matter. Other teachers said that he is on leave. He did not pick up even though he called several times. Other teachers at the school declined to comment on the three students wearing shoelaces. Their comments, whatever they say, will be told to the investigation committee.
