An employee of Jahangirnagar University was brutally tortured by his wife and his brothers in Uttara of the capital. It was alleged that he was thrown down from the fifth floor balcony at one stage of the beating. His two arms and legs, chest and waist bones were broken. His name is Sajeev Pramanik (25). He was admitted to the National Orthopedic Hospital and Rehabilitation Institution (Pangu Hospital) in the capital with serious injuries.

His father Munnaf has filed a case against Sajib’s wife Shahzadi Akhter (30) and Shahzadi’s two brothers Shahadat Hossain (35) and Shamchuddin Shawon yesterday at Uttara Purba police station as the accused in the case of injuring him. Several other sections of the Penal Code have been added to the case, including attempted murder.

Citing the case, Uttara East police said that Shahzadi got married to Sajeev Pramanik three years ago. After marriage, there was no discussion between husband and wife about family matters. A few days ago, Shahzadi visited his father’s house in Sector 4 of Uttara. On June 18, Sajeev went to his father-in-law’s house in Uttara Sector 4 to bring his wife from there to his house. The next day, on June 19, he had a discussion with Shahzadi about family matters. At that time, when Shahzadi called his two brothers, they got angry and started killing, punching and kicking Sajeev. They beat him and took him to the fifth floor balcony. At one point Sajib was thrown down from the balcony. His two arms and legs, chest and waist bones were broken. Later, the attackers took Sajeev to Paralympic Hospital.
When contacted this Friday afternoon, Uttara Purba Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Morshed Alam told Prothom Alo that Pangu went to the hospital and took a statement under Section 161 of Sajeev. His condition is critical. The accused fled after the incident.

Sajeev, who is undergoing treatment at Pangu Hospital, told Prothom Alo in a tearful voice today that the attackers threw him down from the open space above the balcony grill after beating him. At that time, he tried to escape by holding the grill and was thrown down from there. Later, his wife’s brothers rescued him from there and took him to the hospital. He demanded the arrest of the attackers and exemplary punishment.
Sajeev alleged that he had given his wife’s brother Shahadat five lakh rupees to buy gold for his sister’s child. Shahadat killed that money too.
