AB Party chairman calls for end to retaliatory politics and fascist culture in Bangladesh

AB Party Chairman AFM Solaiman Chowdhury, widely known as Mojibur Rahman Monju, has condemned the rising culture of political hostility and vandalism, warning that such actions threaten the democratic ideals of a new Bangladesh. Speaking as the chief guest at a gathering marking the second anniversary of the July mass uprising in Feni on Saturday, he argued that while criticism is a cornerstone of democracy, resorting to derogatory language and retaliatory violence reflects a dangerous, fascist mindset.
The event, held at the party’s district office on Mizan Road, emphasized the necessity of moving beyond the combative politics of the past. Chowdhury stated that any political movement involves both achievements and shortcomings, asserting that those who claim the successes of the July uprising must also accept responsibility for its failures. He urged all revolutionary factions to remain united to effectively counter any resurgence of fascist influence and ensure the aspirations of the populace are fulfilled.
Echoing these sentiments, Mohaimin Tajim, senior joint member secretary of the National Citizens Party’s Feni branch, emphasized the need for national reconciliation. He stated that the country must move definitively away from the cycle of vengeance to prioritize the construction of a discrimination-free society.
The commemorative meeting, chaired by district coordinator Ahsan Ullah and moderated by member secretary Fazlul Haque, provided a platform for a broad coalition of stakeholders. Among the speakers were family members of victims from the July uprising, including Nechar Ahmed, father of martyr Ishtiaq Ahmed Srabon, and Maulana Anwar Hossain, father of martyr Mohammad Ekram Hossain Kawsar.
Representatives from various political and student organizations also addressed the assembly, underscoring a collective commitment to stability and reform. Notable participants included Feni District Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Mufti Abdul Hannan, District Chhatra Dal President Salauddin Mamun, National Citizens Party Member Secretary Shah Wali Ullah, and local leaders from Jatiya Ganatantrik Party (JAGPA) and Chhatra Dal.
