75 villages without electricity in Jaipurhat due to Kalboishakhi rampage, 30 thousand customers suffer

In Akkelpur Upazila of Joypurhat, the electricity supply system has been disrupted due to the rampage of Kalbaisakhi. At least 75 villages of the upazila have been without electricity since the sudden storm that blew yesterday at around 1:15 a.m. till 10:00 a.m. on Thursday. About 30,000 customers have suffered.
According to local sources, the intensity of the storm caused electricity poles to fall and break in different areas. Somewhere the uprooted trees fell on the power lines and the lines were severed. The entire feeder line lost power due to wire breakage at multiple places. Many villages plunged into darkness after evening. Students, businessmen and general consumers have suffered the most due to long-term power outages. There is a communication problem because the mobile phone cannot be charged. Small businesses and families are afraid of food spoilage because the fridge is closed.

About five and a half hours after the storm, electricity supply was started in some areas of Akkelpur town, but the electricity supply system was not normal in several areas including Hastabsantpur, Palpara, Gianipara, Srikrishtapur, Shanta Mohalla till this morning.
Mahmudur Rahman, a resident of Palpara Mohalla in Akkelpur town, said, “There is still no electricity in our house because the section is different. But only a few houses have electricity. A slight storm would cause our section’s line to shut down. I did not get electricity from Wednesday noon to Thursday 8 am. The food in the fridge is about to spoil.

Akram Hossain, a resident of Maligram in Rayakali Union, said, “The electricity supply has been stopped since the storm. I am suffering from it.
Gopinathpur Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Habibur Rahman said that since the storm, power supply has been stopped in Gopinathpur Union. People have suffered a lot due to lack of electricity for a long time.
Akkelpur Palli Vidyut Office said that it may take some time to restore the power supply completely as the amount of damage is high. According to office sources, at least 45 electricity poles were damaged in Kalboishakhi. Apart from this, the tree has fallen and torn it at various places. Repair work is going on at various places of the damaged line. Multiple teams are working at the field level.
Deputy General Manager (DGM) of Akkelpur Regional Office of Joypurhat Palli Vidyut Samiti Abdur Rahman told Prothom Alo this morning that after Kalbaisakhi, power supply is operational in some areas of Akkelpur Municipality and Rukindipur Union. Currently, about 30,000 customers are without electricity. Fast repair and line movement work is ongoing.
