65 lakh rupees hidden wealth, ‘drug dealer’ 7 years imprisonment

A court in Chittagong has sentenced a person to seven years in prison for illegally acquiring wealth and concealing information in the asset declaration. At the same time he was fined 2 crore 26 lakh 58 thousand 660 taka. Judge Mizanur Rahman of the Chittagong Divisional Special Judge’s Court gave this verdict on Monday.

The name of the convicted person is Rupam Chowdhury (41). His home is the son of Dayal Chowdhury of Sarwatali area of ​​Boalkhali upazila. However, he was living in Madhyam Nathpara area of ​​Halishahar police station in the city.

ACC lawyer Mokarram Hossain confirmed the verdict. He said that the accused Rupam Chowdhury has been sentenced to 7 years of rigorous imprisonment as the charges of obtaining illegal wealth through drugs and concealing information in the asset declaration have been proved. At the same time he was fined 2 crore 26 lakh 58 thousand 660 taka.

According to the court sources, Rupam Chowdhury has concealed information of assets worth Tk. Out of this, immovable assets are 38 lakh 23 thousand 439 taka and immovable assets are 26 lakh 83 thousand 391 taka. Apart from this, there is evidence against Rupam of illegal acquisition of Rs 1 crore 61 lakh 51 thousand 830, which is inconsistent with his known source of income. After investigating the case in this incident, the ACC filed a charge sheet against him in the court. After hearing the evidence, the court gave its verdict.
