Dhaka Metropolitan Detective (DB) Police has arrested four people for their involvement with extremist organizations. Police claimed that they were planning to endanger the integrity, solidarity, public safety and sovereignty of Bangladesh. Two firearms, bullets, Jihadi books, drones and explosives were recovered from them.

The arrested persons are Md. Imran Chowdhury (29), Md. Mostakim Chowdhury (25), Ripon Hossain Sheikh (28) and Abu Bakkar (25).
They were arrested by a team of the Ramana Division of the DB after raiding various places in the capital from last Monday night to Tuesday afternoon. On Wednesday, the police filed a case against them under the Anti-Terrorism Act at the Kamrangirchar police station, and the arrest was made in that case.
A DB source told Prothom Alo this afternoon that they suspect the arrested persons to be associated with the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (Arsa), an armed organization of Rohingya based in Myanmar. They congregated in the capital and planned sabotage activities and secret attacks at various places. That is why they collect weapons, bullets, drones and other equipment. Some military uniforms were also recovered from them. They think the clothes belong to Arca.
According to the statement of the case filed in the Kamrangirchar Police Station, Imran was arrested at 3:50 PM on Monday from a house in the Koylaghat area adjacent to the Tara Mosque in Kamrangirchar. Mostakim was arrested from Jianagar area of Keraniganj yesterday at 6:30 am and Ripon and Abu Bakkar were arrested from Rasulpur Shikson Bridge-adjacent area of Kamrangirchar at 8:55 am. Among the four, Imran and Mostakim are brothers. Their village home is in Madhavpur upazila of Habiganj. Ripon’s house is in Raninagar upazila of Naogaon and Abu Bakr’s house is in Rupnagar area of Kamrangirchar of the capital.
The statement also said that a foreign pistol, one shotgun, 14 bullets, three bullet shells, several smartphones, a laptop, metal detector, two drones, seven watch belts, military uniforms, Jihadi books, 900 grams of gunpowder and five bottles of acid were recovered from them. The accused were involved with various extremist organizations, threatened the sovereignty of Bangladesh, kept firearms, bullets, explosives, Jihadi books, drones and military uniforms to destabilize the government and the country.
On the other hand, another source of the DB said that the involvement of the arrested accused with Arsa was initially suspected, but the involvement of Pakistan-based armed organization Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) is also being investigated. They are working on this.
This afternoon DMP Additional Commissioner (DB) Shafiqul Islam held a press conference at the DMP headquarters to inform about the recovery of heroin, yaba, phensidyl and ganja. When asked about the arrest of these four people there, he said that four people associated with extremist organizations have been arrested. They were involved in various terrorist organizations and were carrying out terrorist activities. The accused have been sent to court. The details of their activities will be known only by interrogating them on remand.
In response to the question why the extremists are suddenly raising their heads and what is their purpose, Shafiqul Islam said, ‘I will not say that they are raising their heads, I will only say that action will be taken against those who are involved in these activities. Actions have been taken in the past as well. Action will be taken against those who join in the coming days.
