15 crore Yaba in fishing trawler, 9 arrested
RAB-7 recovered five lakh pieces of Yaba tablets from a fishing trawler in Chittagong. At this time 9 people were arrested. The value of these drugs recovered from Ghat number 15 area under Patenga police station of the city on Friday (April 10) night is about Tk 15 crore.
Among those arrested are five Myanmar nationals. They are Syed Alam, Sultan Ahmed, Md. Yusuf, Md. Kasim and Ismail. The remaining four are Bangladeshi citizens. They are Shah Alam, Azam Ullah, Farooq and Chanaullah.
According to RAB, a fishing boat was coming towards Patenga in Chittagong with a huge shipment of yaba from Cox’s Bazar border area. On receiving the information, a team of RAB-7 raided Patenga’s ghat number 15 area on Friday night.
At that time, when the drug dealers tried to escape from the fishing boat after sensing the presence of RAB, 9 people were arrested. After searching the boat, five lakh pieces of Yaba tablets were recovered from the engine room; The estimated value of which is around 15 crore rupees.
RAB also said that this gang was buying drugs at low prices from various border areas of Myanmar and selling them in various areas including Chittagong, Dhaka. They admitted that yaba was being brought by fishing boats on the sea route due to the activities of law and order forces on the road.
RAB-7 Senior Assistant Director (Media) ARM Mozaffar Hossain told Jugantar that 9 people have been arrested with a large quantity of drugs based on intelligence information. A challan has been given to the court after a case against them in Patenga police station.
