Bandhushaba provides relief assistance to 50 families stranded in waterlogged areas in Banshkhali, Chittagong

Residents of Banshkhali upazila in Chittagong are grappling with severe flooding that has left homes submerged and daily life paralyzed for nearly a week. In the village of Shilpara, located in the Baharchhara Union, families have been forced to navigate waist-deep water inside their residences since last Wednesday, with many unable to cook or maintain basic household functions.
Relief efforts reached the hardest-hit areas on Sunday, as members of the Prothom Alo Bondhusabha, supported by the Prothom Alo Trust, distributed essential food and medical supplies to 50 stranded families. Recipients received packages containing flattened rice, puffed rice, biscuits, candles, oral saline, water purification tablets, and basic medications, providing a temporary respite for those struggling with the ongoing disaster.
For residents like Sukumar Shil, the assistance offers a brief moment of relief, yet the underlying crisis remains as stagnant floodwaters continue to fill their living spaces. Mohammad Shawkat, a resident of the Yusuf Majhi neighborhood, reported that his home has been inundated for five consecutive days. The inability to work, combined with the uncertainty of securing food, has turned the disaster into a prolonged struggle for survival.
The aid distribution, which spanned across Shilpara and the Yusuf Majhi area, marks a broader effort to mitigate the humanitarian impact of the flooding. According to Bondhusabha member Sayed Al Sohel, the initiative reflects a commitment to supporting vulnerable communities during natural disasters. He stated that the organization intends to continue monitoring the situation and providing necessary aid until the water recedes and the affected families can begin their recovery.
