Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty to star in upcoming film by directors Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy

Veteran Tollywood actor Mithun Chakraborty has returned home to recover following a recent hand surgery, and has immediately secured a major new project. The acclaimed actor is set to collaborate with director duo Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy for an upcoming film.

The project, which is scheduled for release next year to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the production house Windows, was officially confirmed by Shiboprosad Mukherjee on Tuesday. Despite his enduring success in Bollywood, Chakraborty remains a frequent presence in Bengali cinema, consistently selecting scripts that resonate with his artistic vision.

Mukherjee expressed his excitement on social media, confirming the partnership by stating that he and Nandita Roy are finally working with the legendary actor. For the director, the collaboration represents the realization of a lifelong ambition. Mukherjee noted that he grew up watching Chakraborty’s iconic performances in films such as Agnipath, Disco Dancer, Do Anjane, and Dance Dance, citing the veteran performer as a source of profound personal inspiration.

Reflecting on the casting process, Mukherjee shared that he had pitched the script to Chakraborty personally. The veteran actor reportedly responded with enthusiasm after hearing the narrative, remarking that the story felt reflective of his own life. The director recalled that their initial contact began while Chakraborty was in the United States, where the actor readily accepted the proposal after receiving an introductory voice note from Mukherjee.

Chakraborty, known for his versatility in roles ranging from Mrigaya to his iconic status as a dance superstar, continues to be regarded as a monumental figure in Indian cinema. Mukherjee emphasized that the actor’s ability to transcend linguistic and cultural boundaries remains a hallmark of his career, and production on the new film is expected to commence shortly.
