The Michael Jackson biopic “Michael,” directed by Antoine Fuqua, has captivated audiences in U.S. theaters for nearly three weeks, earning widespread positive global reception and a formidable box office performance.

As of its third Monday, May 11, the film’s domestic earnings totaled $245.5 million. This strong showing allowed it to outpace “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” which earned $3.4 million on its corresponding third Monday, according to box office analyst Luiz Fernando.

“Michael” also secured the second-highest third Monday gross in the history of biopics. Despite a 21.7% decrease in its Monday earnings compared to the previous week, its ongoing success indicates a robust theatrical run. Domestically, its third Monday gross places it just behind Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer,” which pulled in $4.8 million on its third Monday. It also registered the second-highest record for third Monday earnings for the year 2026, trailing only “Project Hail Mary,” which had garnered $3.7 million.

To surpass “Oppenheimer’s” domestic box office record, “Michael” needs to accumulate at least an additional $84.6 million from the North American market. Analysts predict the film’s domestic run could conclude with total earnings ranging between $310 million and $340 million. If “Michael” maintains its current momentum in the coming days, it stands a significant chance of eclipsing “Oppenheimer’s” overall North American gross.

Audiences are eagerly watching to see what further records “Michael” will break in the weeks ahead amidst its thrilling box office battle.
