Dhallywood director, producer, screenwriter and dramatist Mustafa Sarwar Farooqui feels that filmmaking is more sensitive than other forms of art. The popular filmmaker said, ‘There is no other work as vulnerable as art practice. Especially if it is a movie. If you write a ‘bad’ poem in someone’s eyes, they won’t want to beat you up. But the movie?’

On Friday (April 17), the filmmaker posted a status on his Facebook page expressing the feelings behind the making of the movie. Farooqui wrote about the hardships of his career: There is a tragic side to my life. I got fever during the release of the movie. The reason for this is the fear of post-release attacks.

He said, “Whenever I make a movie, I get an instant response as soon as it’s released—it’s not a movie at all.” nonsense With a weak mind I then focus on other work. Forget the previous work.

The negative comments at the beginning of his own movie make him think now. His unique style of construction has earned him applause from the audience for a long time, but he has also endured severe criticism. Even many of his films did not see the light of day for a long time due to various government restrictions. The up and down filmmaker is currently busy working on a new screenplay. And during that work Janandit director reminisced about his work. Mustafa Sarwar Faruqi lamented that even after a long time the work was evaluated, his enthusiasm decreased. 

He said, after 10 years, I see that ‘Faltu’ movie is introduced as a classic work by new viewers. I won’t lie—it felt good, but by then my vitality was pretty much gone. If I had received that love earlier, I might have been physically fresher. This incident has happened in ‘Bachelor’, ‘Made in Bangladesh’, ‘Third Person Singular’, ‘Television’, ‘420’.

Faruqi said, after posting the article, I thought that those who love my work, have I forgotten them? The answer is ‘no’! Thank you to those of you who have encouraged me to stay as an artist. But I wrote the above words because now I am working on a script. At such times the mind sometimes reflects on past events. 

Mustafa Sarwar Farooqui is a film director, producer, screenwriter and founder of ‘Chabiyal’. He served as a former advisor to the Ministry of Culture in the Interim Government. Currently known as one of the pioneers of the ‘Natun Dhara’ or modern realistic production style in Bangladeshi cinema. He has won numerous awards and honors at national and international levels. 

Through his work, he highlighted the crisis of the middle class, civil love and various anomalies of the society. His notable works include the movies Bachelor (2004), Third Person Singular Number (2009), Television (2012), Dub (2017) and Saturday Afternoon (2019).
