Dhaka art galleries host multiple exhibitions featuring international collaborations and social activism

Dhaka’s art galleries are currently hosting a diverse array of exhibitions, blending aesthetic exploration with socio-political commentary. From landscapes and sculptural installations to visual protests against geopolitical conflict, the city’s cultural scene is offering visitors a multifaceted artistic experience.
The Alliance Française de Dhaka in Dhanmondi is hosting “Bridging Horizons: A Visual Dialogue of Nature, Heritage, Innovation,” a joint exhibition featuring works from Bangladesh and Singapore. Organized by the High Commission of Singapore in Dhaka to mark the nation’s 61st National Day, the exhibition was inaugurated by Professor Emeritus Rafiqun Nabi. The event, curated by Harun-Ar-Rashid, features works from prominent artists of both countries and will remain open until August 19. Twelve young Bangladeshi artists were also honored during the opening ceremony, with the top six entries included in the showcase.
In Lalmatia, sculptor Suman Bormon has opened his third solo exhibition, titled “Antah-Srot” (Undercurrent), at Kalakendra. The exhibition, which runs through August 31, features seven large-scale wooden sculptures. Utilizing materials like mahogany, shilkoroi, garjan, and chapalish, Bormon crafts human forms that evoke the rhythmic flow of river currents. The opening was attended by Professor Lalarukh Selim and architect Naeem Ahmed Kibria.
Meanwhile, Bengal Shilpalaya in Dhanmondi is presenting “The Quiet Within,” a solo exhibition by photographer and visual artist Rashed Zaman. The collection, which continues until August 27, captures the serene landscapes of the Padma river basin. Zaman documented the region between 2020 and 2024, traveling through Rajshahi, Naogaon, Sirajganj, and Kushtia. The works are presented as large-scale prints on canvas, enhanced with acrylic brushwork to depict the solitude of the riverine landscape, including wandering buffalo herds and drifting boats. The exhibition was inaugurated by German Ambassador Dr. Rudiger Lotz.
At the Drik Picture Library in Panthapath, an exhibition titled “Flotilla: Bangladesh Sails for Gaza” offers a poignant visual record of resistance. The exhibition documents the journeys of British-Bangladeshis Zubair Islam Khan and Mohammad Ali, alongside renowned Bangladeshi photographer Shahidul Alam, who joined the Freedom Flotilla Coalition to challenge the blockade of Gaza. Through photography and an artistic installation recreating the Ketziet detention center, the exhibition details their participation in flotillas launched in late 2025 and May of this year. The exhibition, curated by A.S.M. Rezaur Rahman, will remain open to the public until August 29.
