Actress Tanjin Tisha Granted Bail in Breach of Trust Case Over Fashion Page Dispute

DHAKA — Popular Bangladeshi actress Tanjin Tisha was granted bail on Thursday in a breach of trust case filed against her. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana issued the order after the actress surrendered before the court and filed a formal petition for bail.

The case stems from allegations involving an online fashion outlet named Aponia. According to the complaint, Tisha acquired a sari valued at approximately 28,800 taka under the agreement that she would promote the garment on her social media platforms and subsequently pay for the item. The plaintiff alleges that the actress failed to fulfill these terms and later ceased communication.

During the hearing, Tisha’s lawyer, Nihar Hossain Faruk, asserted that his client is a law-abiding public figure. He claimed that the actress had initially agreed to promote the sari, provided it as a sponsored post, and had already uploaded a video in accordance with the arrangement. Faruk further argued that the actress intends to work on an upcoming feature film and presented the sari in court, claiming the original packaging remained unopened.

The plaintiff’s counsel, Jahirul Islam Mukul, contested the defense’s narrative, pointing out a contradiction in the claim that the sari remained packaged despite the actress having already recorded a video wearing it. Mukul stated that the lawsuit was initiated only after a formal legal notice went unaddressed. Furthermore, he alleged that the actress had previously ignored multiple summonses from the Detective Branch (DB) of police, which is currently investigating the matter.

Prosecution lawyers characterized the offense as non-bailable and urged the court to send the defendant to jail, emphasizing that the law applies equally to everyone, regardless of celebrity status.

Following the hearing, the court granted bail to Tisha. The investigation into the allegations of fraud remains ongoing.
