A resident of Chokoria municipality in Cox's Bazar has filed a formal police complaint accusing a neighbor of bludgeoning his pet cat to death on Monday afternoon (October 21). The owner, 54-year-old Shamshul Alam, arrived at the Chokoria Police Station carrying the carcass of the animal in a cage, seeking legal redress for the brutal killing.
According to the written complaint lodged with local authorities, the incident unfolded on Monday morning when Alam took his cat to an open space behind his residence. The victim alleged that a dog owned by his neighbor, Firoza Begum, attempted to attack his cat, prompting him to intervene and drive the dog away. Alam claims that an incensed Firoza Begum responded by striking the cat with a stick, killing the animal instantly.
Alam, a resident of the Kazirpara area, expressed deep anguish over the loss, describing the pets as members of his family. He emphasized that his motive for pursuing legal action is to ensure accountability and prevent further acts of cruelty toward defenseless animals in the community.
Attempts to reach the accused, Firoza Begum, for comment were unsuccessful as her mobile phone remained switched off throughout the day.
Chokoria Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Arifur Rahman confirmed that the station has received the complaint. He stated that the killing of an animal constitutes a legal offense and assured that law enforcement officials are currently investigating the circumstances of the incident to determine the appropriate legal course of action.
