Rajshahi Administration Confirms Sufficient Fertilizer Stocks Amidst Monitoring Efforts

RAJSHAHI — Local administration officials confirmed on Wednesday that there is no fertilizer shortage in the Rajshahi district, following surprise inspections of authorized dealership points in Motihar and Katakhali.
Rajshahi Deputy Commissioner Kazi Shahidul Islam, who also serves as the president of the fertilizer and seed monitoring committee, led the inspections alongside Divisional Commissioner Md. Yusuf Ali and other senior agricultural officials. The team visited M/S Moslem Molla in the Choudoddopai area of Rajshahi city and M/S Nahar Enterprise in the Katakhali municipality of Paba Upazila, finding adequate stock levels at both locations.
Addressing the media, Kazi Shahidul Islam stated that with approximately 90 percent of Aman rice planting already completed, the demand for non-urea fertilizer has declined. He added that the district currently maintains a reserve of 2,469 metric tons of urea fertilizer. To ensure continued supply, the administration has authorized dealers to begin withdrawing their September allocations starting Thursday.
The Deputy Commissioner emphasized that the administration is monitoring the distribution process closely. Officials from the Department of Agricultural Extension and local Upazila administrations are present at dealer points to ensure farmers receive fertilizer at government-mandated prices without harassment.
To maintain transparency, dealers are now required to submit daily reports to their respective Upazila agricultural officers, detailing stock levels and daily sales. The administration has warned that any attempts to create artificial shortages, illegal hoarding, or black-market activities will be met with strict legal consequences.
Authorities noted that ongoing vigilance operations targeting illegal storage have already resulted in the recovery of 1,293 sacks of fertilizer and the collection of 300,000 taka in fines for various irregularities. Furthermore, the district has submitted a formal request to the relevant ministry for additional fertilizer allocations to meet future farmer demand.
