Two mechanics killed after broken-down truck topples in Bogra

Two mechanics were killed and a truck driver was left in critical condition after a vehicle they were repairing toppled onto them late Tuesday night on the Dhaka-Bogura highway in Sherpur, Bogura.
The accident occurred at approximately 11:45 p.m. in the Mahipur area under Garidaha Union. The victims were identified as 20-year-old Mamunur Rashid, a resident of Islampur in Bogura Sadar, and 26-year-old Abu Hanzala, from the Basho area of Nandigram. The injured driver, 22-year-old Liton Mia, resides in the Damgari area of Nandigram.
Witness Saiful Islam reported that the truck, which was loaded with timber, had broken down in Mahipur. The two mechanics were summoned from Bogura to perform repairs while the vehicle was positioned near the road divider on the western side of the highway. During the maintenance work, the truck suddenly tilted and collapsed onto the three men.
Personnel from the Sherpur Fire Service conducted a rescue operation at the scene. Sherpur Highway Police subsequently transported the victims to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital. Both mechanics succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday. Physicians have described the driver’s condition as critical.
Sub-Inspector Shahidul Islam of the Sherpur Highway Police confirmed that the bodies of the two deceased were released to their families on Wednesday morning following identification. Authorities have cleared the damaged truck from the highway and placed it into police custody. Legal proceedings regarding the incident are currently underway.
