Mother and son die from electrocution while attempting home repairs in Jamalpur

A mother and her son died from electrocution while attempting to repair a faulty electrical connection at their home in Jamalpur’s Dewanganj Upazila on Tuesday evening. The incident, which also left the grandmother critically injured, occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. in the Balugram area.

The deceased have been identified as 37-year-old Lucky Akter, wife of Abdur Rashid, and her 14-year-old son, Raju Mia. Raju’s grandmother, Buli Begum, sustained serious injuries during the incident.

Local reports indicate that the tragedy unfolded when Raju attempted to fix a malfunctioning electrical line in their residence. He was accidentally electrocuted while handling the wiring. Upon witnessing her son in distress, Lucky Akter attempted to rescue him but was also electrocuted. Buli Begum then intervened to save her daughter-in-law and grandson, subsequently suffering severe electrical shocks herself.

Family members and neighbors rushed the three victims to the local Upazila Health Complex. Attending physicians declared both Raju Mia and Lucky Akter dead upon arrival. Buli Begum remains hospitalized at the facility, where she is currently receiving treatment for her injuries.

Anwar Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dewanganj Police Station, confirmed that officers were dispatched to the scene following the report. Authorities noted that the family has not yet filed a formal complaint. Police stated that an official investigation will be initiated should a complaint be lodged.
