Pabna BNP leaders accuse local Jasas convener of extortion and abuse of power

Pabna district leaders of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) have formally accused Khaled Hossain, the district convener of Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sanskritik Sangstha (JASAS), of extortion, abuse of power, and misconduct. The allegations were detailed during a press conference held at the Pabna Press Club on Monday.
BNP leaders stated that they have submitted formal written complaints to both the Prime Minister and the chairperson of the BNP regarding Hossain’s conduct. The complaint submitted to the Prime Minister’s office on August 30 alleges that Hossain, who serves as a personal photographer to the Prime Minister, has been inciting fear and panic among the public, tarnishing the government’s image, and behaving improperly toward party colleagues.
According to the written submission, party officials have expressed deep concern over reports of Hossain threatening local business owners via social media. BNP leaders further alleged that various social media accounts have circulated claims of extortion linked to him, leaving local party representatives to face difficult questions from the public. The complaint also asserts that when party officials attempted to address these matters with Hossain, he responded with aggression and unprofessional behavior.
Khaled Hossain has categorically denied the allegations, characterizing the claims as a smear campaign orchestrated by local interest groups. In a telephone interview, Hossain claimed that certain BNP leaders, who he alleged are linked to corrupt contractors, have been targeting him because he spoke out against their activities. He challenged his accusers to provide specific evidence of land grabbing, extortion, or abuse of power, asserting that they are unable to substantiate their claims.
The formal complaint submitted by the district BNP was signed by several senior figures, including District Convener Habibur Rahman, Joint Conveners Abdus Samad Khan, Nur Mohammad, and Abu Obayda Sheikh Tuhin, Member Secretary Masud Khandaker, and members Mahmudunnabi and Mosabbir Hossain.
While the district convener and member secretary were absent from Monday’s press conference, Joint Convener Nur Mohammad addressed the media on behalf of the party. He emphasized the necessity of maintaining internal discipline within the Pabna district BNP and reiterated the party’s demand for official action against Hossain to prevent further damage to the organization’s reputation.
