Prothom Alo Bondhushava Hosts Writers Festival 2026 in Dhaka to Nurture Emerging Literary Talent

The Prothom Alo Bondhushava “Lekhak Bondhu Utsab 2026,” a day-long national festival for aspiring writers, commenced on Friday at the Prothom Alo office in Karwan Bazar, Dhaka. The event, which began at 9:30 a.m. and is scheduled to conclude at 5:30 p.m., brings together selected young writers from across the country to foster literary growth and talent development.
The ceremony opened with a collective rendition of the national anthem, followed by an introductory session for the participating authors. Soumendra Goswami, the convener of the 2026 festival, moderated the proceedings, while Mahmuda Muhsina Bushra, joint general secretary of the Bondhushava National Executive Committee, delivered the welcome address. Emphasizing the role of writers in society, Bushra expressed her hope that the event would serve as a meaningful platform for knowledge sharing and professional development among attendees. Additional opening remarks were provided by the organization’s national organizing secretary, Towhid Imam, and executive member Taposi Roy.
The event’s first technical session featured a discussion titled “Flash Fiction and Micro-fiction: Global Perspective,” led by novelist Mohit Kamal. Highlighting the discipline required for a literary career, Kamal noted that success is contingent upon motivation, persistence, and genuine curiosity.
This marks the third iteration of the festival, which aims to encourage young writers and cultivate new talent. Many of the participants are established contributors to various publications, with some having already published their own books. The festival includes a comprehensive program comprising creative writing workshops, open discussions, and dialogue sessions between authors, publishers, and editors. The event will culminate in an awards ceremony honoring the best participating writers.
The festival features a prominent panel of experts, including Prothom Alo Executive Editor and poet Sajjad Sharif, Managing Editor and novelist Anisul Hoque, and Associate Editor Sumona Sharmin. Other notable speakers and facilitators include author and translator Faruk Moinuddin, novelist Mohit Kamal, Somoy Prokashon publisher Farid Ahmed, Batighar CEO and Chief Editor Zafar Ahmad Rashed, and novelist Sadat Hossain.
