Sarjis Alam accuses BNP of political betrayal and warns of government unpopularity

Sarjis Alam, the chief organizer for the northern region of the Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP), has accused the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) of deceiving the public and failing to adhere to its own political commitments. Speaking at a press conference in Feni on Thursday, Alam claimed that the public is increasingly losing faith in the BNP, noting that the party has failed to implement its promised 31-point reform agenda or the objectives outlined in the July Charter.
During the exchange with journalists at a local auditorium, Alam criticized the current interim administration, stating that it has become significantly unpopular within its first six months in office. He pointed to rising commodity prices, fuel shortages, and persistent power outages as primary factors contributing to public disillusionment.
Alam further alleged that institutional politicization and nepotism remain widespread. He specifically condemned the government’s reported plan to appoint administrators to Union Parishads, describing the move as a shameful precedent for the nation’s democratic process.
Regarding upcoming electoral strategies, the NCP leader announced that the party intends to field independent candidates in all future local government elections.
The press conference was attended by several senior party officials, including NCP Joint Convenor Sarwar Tushar, Joint Member Secretary Saleh Uddin, Chittagong Divisional Organizing Secretary SM Sujauddin, and Feni District Committee Convenor Zahidul Islam. Member Secretary Shahwali Ullah and Senior Joint Member Secretary Muhaymin Tajim were also present at the event.
