Election Commission targets November for start of Union Parishad polls

The Election Commission of Bangladesh is preparing to launch the local government election cycle, beginning with the Union Parishad polls scheduled for November.
Election Commissioner Abdur Rahman Masud confirmed the timeline on Tuesday, noting that the commission has finalized the majority of its logistical preparations. He stated that the commission has been working with a targeted start date in November to initiate the electoral process.
Addressing the scheduling strategy, Commissioner Masud explained that the commission has identified the window between November and April as the most suitable period for conducting elections. He noted that the commission intends to plan around major religious and public observances, including the festivities of Puja, the holy month of Ramadan, and the Eid holidays, to ensure optimal participation and administrative efficiency.
The Election Commission has reached a policy decision to prioritize the Union Parishad elections during this upcoming phase of local government polls.
