Bangladesh Appoints Former UN Envoy Mohammad Abdul Muhith as High Commissioner to the United Kingdom

The Bangladeshi government has appointed Mohammad Abdul Muhit, the former Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations in New York, as the country’s new High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.
The Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification on Monday confirming the appointment, which is structured as a two-year contractual engagement. Prior to this assignment, Muhit served as the Rector of the Foreign Service Academy.
A career diplomat from the 11th batch of the Bangladesh Civil Service (Foreign Affairs) cadre, Muhit brings extensive international experience to his new role in London. His previous diplomatic postings include serving as the Ambassador of Bangladesh to Austria and Denmark. Additionally, he has represented the country at various international organizations and has held diplomatic positions in the United States, Italy, Qatar, and Kuwait.
The government has granted Muhit the status of Grade-1 officer for this tenure. Under the terms of the appointment, his post-retirement leave and associated benefits have been suspended. Furthermore, he is required to sever all professional ties with other businesses, government, semi-government, or private organizations upon assuming his new duties.
Muhit, who holds undergraduate and master’s degrees from the University of Dhaka, will officially commence his term on the date of his joining. The remaining terms and conditions of his employment will be finalized through a formal contract.
