Weather Department Issues Local Warning Signal Three for Maritime Ports Following Low Pressure in Bay of Bengal

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has issued a Level 3 local cautionary signal for the country’s four maritime ports following the formation of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal. The warning was disseminated late Sunday as officials monitored weather patterns near the northern and western reaches of the bay.
Meteorologist Md. Omar Faruq confirmed that while the low-pressure system is currently active, the likelihood of it intensifying into a depression remains low. Consequently, the system is not expected to trigger heavy rainfall. However, coastal areas may experience increased precipitation throughout Monday, and the capital, Dhaka, is likely to see light rain between afternoon and evening hours.
Under the current advisory, all fishing boats and trawlers operating in the northern Bay of Bengal have been instructed to remain near the coast and exercise extreme caution until further notice. The Storm Warning Centre indicated that the low-pressure system could induce gusty winds across maritime ports, the northern Bay of Bengal, and coastal regions of Bangladesh, necessitating the Level 3 cautionary signals for the ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra.
While this system is expected to have a minimal impact, weather forecasts suggest a slight drop in temperatures compared to the previous day. Scattered rainfall may occur throughout the week, though no sustained heavy downpours are anticipated.
Looking ahead, meteorological models suggest that rainfall may increase significantly by next Sunday. Authorities are also tracking the potential formation of another low-pressure system approximately two days thereafter. Despite the current activity, the department maintains that the prevailing weather conditions will offer only temporary relief from the heat rather than significant meteorological disruption.
