Dhaka Court Grants Three-Day Remand for Notorious Geneva Camp Drug Kingpin Chua Selim

A Dhaka court on Saturday placed Mohammad Selim Ashrafi, a suspected kingpin of a drug syndicate operating out of the Geneva Camp in the capital’s Mohammadpur area, under a three-day police remand.
Metropolitan Magistrate Manjurul Islam issued the order following a hearing. Police had originally sought a seven-day remand to interrogate the 45-year-old suspect, who is widely known by the alias Chua Selim. The development was confirmed by Sub-Inspector Mizanur Rahman of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) prosecution division.
Selim was apprehended on Thursday during a raid conducted by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-2) in Sector-7, Block-5 of the Geneva Camp. According to the case documents, authorities seized a 7.65mm foreign-made pistol, two rounds of ammunition, two magazines, 110 grams of heroin, a mobile phone, and 470 taka. Selim failed to produce any valid documentation or permits for the firearm.
Following the arrest, Sub-Inspector Sajjad Khan of Mohammadpur Police Station filed a case on Friday. In the remand petition, the investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Humayun Kabir, informed the court that Selim is a habitual offender with more than 36 criminal cases pending against him.
Investigators stated that Selim is suspected of involvement in organized robbery, mugging, and territorial dominance activities across the capital. Police argued that custodial interrogation is essential to determine the source of the illicit weaponry, locate potential caches of additional arms, and uncover the suspect’s operational networks.
