Ten-year-old girl missing after falling from houseboat in Sunamganj Tanguar Haor

A 10-year-old girl went missing Friday after falling from a moving houseboat into the Boulai River near Sunamganj’s Tanguar Haor. The child, identified as Rokaiya Nur, is the daughter of Shahnur Rahman, a resident of Goalchamat Road in Faridpur district.

The incident occurred during the afternoon in the Mahtabpur area as the houseboat, named Safina Luxury Water Villa, was traveling from Tanguar Haor toward the Jadukata River. According to passengers on board, the child fell into the water unnoticed by her family while the vessel was passing near the Dakshinkul ferry terminal in Tahirpur Upazila.

Following the fall, passengers and local residents immediately initiated a search operation. Fire Service divers arrived from Sunamganj at approximately 4:00 p.m. to conduct an underwater search, but the child remained missing by nightfall.

Tahirpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Faruk Ahmed confirmed that the search operation was suspended due to darkness. Rescuers are scheduled to resume operations on Saturday morning.

The houseboat had departed from Madhyanagar earlier that morning with a group of 20 tourists, including the victim’s family, before heading toward the Jadukata River. This incident follows a separate tragedy on June 6, when an eight-year-old child, Moumata Sarkar, died after falling onto the moving engine of a houseboat while visiting Tanguar Haor.
